Fall in love with the wines of the Valdichiana and Val d’Orcia areas, such as the Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, the Cortona DOC and the Orcia DOC. Exploring different areas of Southern Tuscany, you will visit 4 wineries producing fine Tuscan red wines. At each one, you will get direct knowledge of the producers, discovering their business philosophies and tasting their wines in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. Getting in touch with the experts on the different types of wines will be exciting and stimulating. Program

Day 1: Welcome to Valdichiana Senese – Montepulciano and the historical cellars

Arrival at a holiday farm with, garden and panoramic view, in the countryside.

3 PM – GUIDED TOUR OF THE HISTORICAL CELLARS OF MONTEPULCIANO: Meeting point in Montepulciano at Piazza Grande, n. 7, and departure for a guided tour of the historic center of Montepulciano, with a visit to two monumental cellars and tasting of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG (approximate duration: 2 hours and a half).

8 PM – WELCOME DINNER IN A TYPICAL RESTAURANT IN MONTEPULCIANO HISTORIC CENTER based on a tasting menu to get knowledge of the local flavors: bruschetta, cured meats and Pecorino cheeses, pici with meat sauce or aglione sauce, cantucci and Vinsanto, Vino Rosso di Montepulciano DOC and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG.

 

Day 2: Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG

10:00 AM – GUIDED TOUR OF 3 WINERIES PRODUCING VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO, PLUS A LUNCH: A guide will introduce you to the world of the wines of Montepulciano, telling stories and curiosities related to its area of origin. Exploring different areas of the territory of Montepulciano, you will discover three wineries producing Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and Rosso di Montepulciano DOC. At one of them, you will have the opportunity to taste the typical dishes cooked with local products, paired with the local wines (approximate duration: 6 hours).

 

Day 3: Secret villages and flavors: Vinsanto, Extra virgin Tuscan olive oil, and Pecorino cheese from Pienza

10:00 AM – MONTEFOLLONICO AND VINSANTO: Guided tour of the characteristic medieval village of Montefollonico, surrounded by thirteenth-century walls made of terracotta and stone, partly in ruins. Montefollonico is also known as “The village of Vinsanto”; enjoying a tasting of this famous Tuscan wine, the reason will be clear.

12:30 PM – LIGHT LUNCH WITH A TASTING OF EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL: In the small village of Castelmuzio, renowned for the high quality of the extra virgin olive oil produced here, enjoy a tasting of olive oil and a light lunch based on local products.

4:00 PM – PIENZA AND THE PECORINO CHEESE: Guided tour of Pienza, an ideal Renaissance city, whose historic center is a UNESCO heritage site, and of the wonderful Piccolomini Palace, which was the historic mansion of Enea Piccolomini (Pope Pius II), with its panoramic garden. At the end of the tour, you will enjoy a tasting of Pecorino cheese from Pienza at a shop in the historic center.

Day 4: Orcia DOC and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

10:00 AM – GUIDED TOUR OF A ORCIA DOC WINE CELLAR: Guided tour of a winery producing Vino Orcia DOC, plus a wine tasting.

12:00 PM – GUIDED TOUR OF BAGNO VIGNONI: A small village located in the heart of the Val d’Orcia park (UNESCO Heritage Site), renowned for its thermal waters. Piazza delle Sorgenti stands in the center of the village, and features a large rectangular pool supplied by the hot and steaming waters that naturally flow from the underground.

1:00 PM – LUNCH IN VAL D’ORCIA: Tasting of typical local dishes, based on local products and ingredients.

3:00 PM – GUIDED TOUR OF A BRUNELLO WINERY: Guided tour of a winery producing Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, plus a wine tasting.

5:00 PM – GUIDED TOUR OF MONTALCINO: Guided tour of the historic center of Montalcino and its medieval fortress, from which you will enjoy a splendid view over the Val d’Orcia, the Crete Senesi, up to the hills of the Maremma.

 

Day 5: Cortona DOC and Chianina meat

10:00 AM – GUIDED TOUR OF A CORTONA DOC WINE CELLAR: Guided tour of a winery producing Cortona DOC, plus a wine tasting.

12:00 PM – GUIDED TOUR OF CORTONA: A guided tour of this ancient Etruscan town, including its historical palaces and the squares, which were chosen as the set of several movies, including “Under the Tuscan Sun”.

1:00 PM – LIGHT LUNCH BASED ON THE VALDICHIANA FLAVORS: You will taste the dishes of the rural traditions, including the crostini topped with chicken liver pate, and ribollita.

4:00 PM – CHIANINA TOUR: Visit to a Chianina breeding farm, to discover the largest calves in the world, from which the famous “Florentine T-bone steak” originates.

7:30 PM – DINNER at a farm, based on Chianina meat, and other short supply chain products.
